Muddy Toad!
Muddy Toad

Whilst moving the compost bins from the old plot to new this week, I stumbled across this little guy lurking in there.  I’ve never known toads to hide out in compost bins before, always assuming they preferred being near water – but a little research suggests it is actually a place they often hibernate (in which case, my apologies Mr Toad for disturbing you!).

Upon discovery, I moved him onto a plank of wood half-way between the new pond and the newly-placed compost bins on the new plot – I sat watching for a while to see which route he’d choose, but he just sat there and didn’t move until my back was turned – so sadly, I have no idea where he went.

Wherever he chose to go, he’s taught me to be very careful when turning the compost heap – usually I’d be forcing a fork in with vigour. I’ll be a bit more careful in future.

Wow that is a massive toad, I’m not a fan of frogs and toads but we get lots around here and no water either.

Hello Mr Toad, he doesn’t look too impressed to have been disturbed! We’ve also been learning about toads recently too as the kids found 3 in our garden last night, we also live no where near water so there must be a damp spot in someones garden nearby.
